Social Branding in #DigCit

My #DigCit students have been studying their digital footprint/tattoo and are now working on educating others as to what social branding is and how they can help build a positive social brand for themselves in the process.  They could choose any platform off this list: https://goo.gl/VgH9eL or propose a different one to me.  Here are some of their projects.  If you would leave some comments that I could pass on to the students, it would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you and enjoy!

  1. I only had a few minutes to browse your students
work but did watch Alexia Gillette's video. What an amazing job she did! Her message was clear, timely, and very relevant. Excellent job Alexia! I also got to look at Cherish's Prezi. I really loved how blog posts was included in the presentation. Many times, when people think about social media they only think about things like Twitter or FB. Great job Cherish!

  2. Very nice job as I watched a few of those (starting at the bottom). Looking to move on and get a nice paying career down the road, 'social branding' or at least creating a positive digital profile for yourself is important. I also learned about a few other neat presentation sites like Emaze and Explee. Thanks. Great job.

  4. Great work! Always like the points about your social brand doesn't sprout up overnight. Great point to remember and share, it takes a long time to build and forever to live down and change.

    Good work!

  6. Congratulations students, on your fine presentations. Rachel, how old are your students? I plan to use some of these in my digital literacy classes for our Yr 5-6 students aged 10-12. They are always interested in what their big brothers and sisters are up to! I really appreciate your sharing.
    Cheers

  7. Hi there,

I picked out three of the campaigns to watch at random. They were the ones from Cherish, Brandi, and Hannah. Overall, I enjoyed them, for both the content and presentation, but especially key were the messages: making good choices and maintaining a positive social presence.

I've looked at potential employees' social media accounts before and you can learn a lot from what you see; maybe too much depending on what's there. And that's true at many companies now. It's not unusual for employers to ask for your social media accounts.

Anyway, I don't mean to preach. It's just that I know how important it is.

Thanks for inviting me into the project as an audience member.

    2. Thanks for the opportunity to learn from your students. They did a great job of educating the viewer on the things one should be aware of when using social media. I liked the use of multiple platforms as it allowed the students to not only experience different ways to communicate but it also educated the viewer of new platforms as well. I'd encourage the students to connect with their district at a broader level by sharing these great presentations with younger students so they can begin thinking about this early.

      Kudos Rachel and Students!

  8. Pleasure to look at AND I saw some great visuals to help support the text which helped get your points across! Saw the Word Cloud, pointing finger in another - all reminding us to take responsibility and be smart! Nicely done and I hope you can share this great info with your peers! Mary - Bus. Ed T. from CT

  9. I really love this project and the different ways in which the students exhibited creativity in making their points. One great lesson about social branding learned here is the importance of controlling your digital footprint by creating and posting positive content. In terms of specific feedback make sure an photos and non-original thoughts are cited appropriately. Consider also citing informational sources that support your view(s).

  14. Love the assignment and the different choices! So far I have watched Brandi's, Val's and Alexi's. Great content in all of them, they get the point. The fonts on Brandi's were hard to read a few times. (Maybe use white outline), and Val's could use either background color and larger font. A last point is timing. Make sure your slide is on long enough to read if it autoflips. Alexi's Prezi was self flipping, so that wasn't an issue. My daughter is a college coach and she most definitely looks at prospective recruits and their online presence. Great job on content guys! If I were to use your presentation in my class, I'd ask for a little spit and polish! Make others want to see more.

  15. Wow! I love the variety of presentations but all of them express social branding in a wonderful way. I had always been aware of watching out for the negative brand, but never thought about using social media to promote yourself in a positive light. Thank you for opening my eyes to that side of things! I think it is great you are starting to promote positive social branding while still in high school. Thank you for sharing and teaching me something new!

  17. Social branding is a great concept that I've never heard of before! Thank you for making great projects for me to learn about this topic. I liked the flipagrams; that was a unique way to create a video.

  18. Hey Rachel,

I looked through a few of these and I am super impressed by this project! This is a topic that interests me personally as someone with a career in social media/community. I think these students are learning valuable lessons that will help them greatly in the future. I'd love to connect more on this. I'll reach out via our Schoology Course. Congratulations to you and your students!
